Patients with rare or undiagnosed diseases usually face the problem of finding a physician with the particular expereience in diagnosing and treating the particular disease. The quest of finding the appropriate physiscian often lasts for years and does not guarantee success.
In order to rapidly diagnose and support the rare disease patients according to the state-of-the-art research findings, a close collaboration of interdisciplinary experts is required. The newly formed Center for Rare and Undiagnosed Disases, CeRUD, is founded to integrate a network of clinical institutions and experts form various biomedical research fields to close the unmet need of diagnosing and treating a rare disease.
There are three main ways to reach CeRUD: either through specialized clinical institutions in which the treating physiscian presents the patient case to CeRUD committee, directly by contacting CeRUD via internet site, email or telephone, or through various self-support groups in Austria which are in close contact with CeRUD.
