The main specificity of rare diseases is limited number of patients and broad spectrum of underlying molecular pathomechanisms, which inevitably results in scarcity of expertise. One of the main tasks of CeRUD is to generate and promote the local cluster of interdisciplinary clinical research and technology expertise capable of addressing a broad spectrum of rare diseases. This is achieved by bundling the local competences into thematic programmes with aim of rapid exchange of knowledge and technologies. In addition, individual research groups often participate in more than one thematic program which significantly increases knowledge dissemination and flow of information. This interaction is further increased by CeRUD educational program connecting students enrolled in PhD programs throughout the thematic programs. CeRUD also serves as a platform for international collaborations in order to tackle rare diseases as effectively and as a whole.
